3. Bite

[Drusilla has been away on a combat mission in the mountains. She loves those types of missions; this was her second, and it was a long one. She fed; oh, she fed. Gorged herself on the blood of the fallen enemies that littered the steep, rocky terrain around her.

Turned a few Third Party warriors who seemed attractive enough to turn. She had plans to create her own demon army on the Outside. These fell through when the Organization shipped her back to the enclosure.]

Jilly? I know you from through the window. I've made a doll.

[The video clicks on, and a horrid picture appears: a likeness similar to Jilly, with dark pits instead of eyes and a mouth stitched shut mid-scream. Beside it is a scratched-in number Seven.]

I want you all in my belly.

[Tonight Drusilla is on a quest to kill whomever she can and to turn whomever she can into vampires. The last thread, chronologically, will go to Buffy (together, possibly, with Faith if Aly and Kyra feel like doing that).]

A snort of a laugh. Takes one to know one? Did it ever. But Buffy felt impulse-driven to keep that veneer so firmly in place when interacting with Faith. She had the image to play into: the good Slayer; the successful Slayer; the sane Slayer. There were aches and pains and issues a-plenty below the business front but those were weaknesses and Faith should never see them. Just like how Faith should never see her happiness, either. Her joys. Buffy guarded those covetously and close to her heart.

She tossed the scythe from hand to hand. "Could be the Shift, but I think most people have worn off the wacko-sauce. I hope." Because Jack had gone vamp for a few days there and she did not like the thought of running into any surprise demons, tonight.

Buffy nodded down the path. Join me.

She accepted the invitation wordlessly, falling into step with Buffy. "Yeah...what's the deal with these shifts? They always turn this place into a looney bin?"

[herotypical]

"Think of them like pizzas, and that last one was like ordering the works. I'd already lived through all of those the first time they ran and I didn't care much for seeing them in syndication."

"Figures this place would get stuck on reruns."

She shoved her hands in her pockets, dark gaze scanning her side of the road. "So if this ain't shift feelings, what're you expecting?"

"Drusilla's been too quiet for too long. And..." And she got a nice dose of the dreams, recently. Creepy little mental warnings. Slayer instincts.

She wondered -- "Have you had any? Dreams? You know the ones I'm talking about."

Other girls. Other demons. Anything other than their own tragic night-terrors.

"Nothin' clear." Plenty that weren't, though. Truth was, she hadn't slept well since she'd arrived, for one reason or another.

"You think she...you know... got sent home?"

[herotypical]

"We can hope so, but hope feels a little childish in this instance. If we had one of the not-so-evil vamps about, they could do their creepy sire-childe thing and figure it out. Or use their noses, which is equally creepy.

But instead? There's us. And a whole lot of path to cover in one night."

"Good thing I'm not feelin' sleepy."

Buffy decided to interpret that statement rather...liberally.

"Having a tough time settling, huh?" For a moment, she wanted to ask how different this place was from real prison.

"Settling into Sleepy Hollow? No thanks."

She gave a small shrug of her shoulders. "Not really my thing, anyway."

[herotypical]

"And here I was, expecting the lack of orange jumpsuits to be entirely your thing."

"Hey, joint's got points for free fashion, but that doesn't mean I feel like callin' it home."

[herotypical]

"...How's the food?"

"Not one of the perks."

She raised an eyebrow. "You lookin' for something specific?"

[herotypical]

"From you?" Mock-innocence. "No. Nothing specific. Just..."

A loose swing of the scythe, passing it through the empty air. "Never mind. Nix the casual chats about the slammer. Got it."

"It ain't exactly the stuff of epics, you know."

Her gaze followed the scythe as it swung over the path ahead of them. "Gotta be a lot more excitement back at good ol' Sunny D."

[herotypical]

"Sunnydale."

Oh. Right. Faith didn't know...

"Things've...happened. Yes. Hip-hop-and-happening, back in the creepiest place on Earth."

"Hip hop with me playin' hero. Definitely not the same old."

[herotypical]

"If it's any consolation, you were a pretty late entrant in the game."

[want_take_have]

"Ridin' in to save the day?" She gave a small smirk. "Guess I'm okay with that."

She nodded in the direction of the path. "So...where are you thinkin' we'll find Ms. Dark and Crazy?"

[herotypical]

"Last time, she made a big old threatening list. You could've swapped it out for the guest list to my birthday party." Read: people close to Buffy were targets. "But I think I've got everyone on the same don't invite the strange lady inside page. So that's a plus.

Hey. Do you think the whole invite thing works for boats?"

"Why? Think one could carry you outta here?"

[herotypical]

"No. It's been tried. But there's this..." Guy I know. Nope. Reverse reverse. "Some people here really like their boats. I'd hate to see them get crunched and munched just for playing sailor."

[want_take_have]

"I saw a few of those sailor boys walkin' around." A kind of half smile settled on her lips. "Dish, Buff. You chasin' uniforms? Gotta say, some of them seemed plenty pretty."

Buff. It got her back up. Raised her hackles, so to speak. Sent her back to the corner of cold-shoulders and non-cooperation.

"What? No. Definitely not chasing any uniforms." She did a good job of sounding horrified. After all, it wasn't a lie. "I am...so through with uniforms."
